John H. Mallis

In his work with the sky, he dealt with the systematization of information about binary stars , nebulae , clusters and galaxies . Together with Evered Kreimer, he created The Messier Album – one of the first serious, professional works on the catalog of Messier objects .

Around 1965, he noticed and proved the identity of the M40 and Winnecke 4 objects, which he described in a letter to the editorial office of Sky and Telescope , which was then published there in 1966.
